Press Release July 2009

SCMS 500 Demonstration at Pudel Art Basel*, August 30 2009 3pm

Public urban areas such as parks and other accessible open air spaces are faced with an increasing number of persons that do neither consume nor use the space in its intended transitorial function. Typically those persons occupy spaces for a prolonged period of time, thus creating a potential source of irritation.

Henke Systems ™ offers a wide range of sonic crowd management systems. These systems create a high energy pulse of sound in user defined time intervals, optionally preceded by legal warnings where applicable. Just like a neutron bomb, the sound bursts do not harm buildings, city infrastructure or private property but will make it impossible for unwanted persons to stay in the exposed areas.

We are pleased to be able to present such a system as part of the Pudel Art Basel. The system we will install is a SCMS 500 LX® using a total of sixteen PH8 emitters. Target areas are the public spaces around the Pudel Headquarters.

A sales representative and members of the city government will be present to answer questions.

* Pudel Art Basel is a project of the Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg. Its main purpose is foundrasing for projects against the increasing gentrification of the St.Pauli area in Hamburg which becomes more and more a threat for the numerous alternative projects located there.

THE SCMC 500 installation is an array of high performance piezo speakers, emitting a spoken warning to leave the space in many languages, followed by a one minute long extremely loud and unpleasant high frequency noise every 15 minutes. The installation certainly has its ironic qualities, however, sonic warfare is an existing concept and using sound as a weapon is not science fiction but rather dark reality.

SCMS 500® is a registered trademark of Henke Systems™.
